For those that don't know the story, that is Richard Barnes 33 Willys. When he heard about the reunion he pulled the car out of the barn after 30 years and ordered an engine to his old specs. The only addition was the new wheely bars in the back and they didn't help. On
his third pass he got the front end about 3 to 4 feet up and came down hard. It cost him the olds posi unit, which he was able to get working again marginally. When asked if he got out of it when it went up, his response was he didn't have time. The pinion must gave
climbed the ring gear til the clutches smoked and broke loose. Posi's were a way of life back then. NHRA wouldn't allow gassers to run locked rears or spools because there weren't any bulletproof axles available.
By the way the car was white pearl, it faded to that yellow color.Richard's next door neighbor in the 60's was a little kid named Greg Koesel. Greg idolized the car. Greg's car is the yellow 33 willy's that runs the ford inline 6. Greg got to run Richard this weekend for the first time ever and managed to beet him when Richard redlighted.
