CRAFTS & SNACKS
PINATA'S(2 WEEKS TO MAKE, TAKE HOME ON 3RD WEEK!)
YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
SCOUTS IN YUCKY-CRAFTY CLOTHING!
12 INCH BALLOONS
NEWSPAPER
LARGE BOWL(S) DEPENDING ON DEN SIZE!
FLOUR AND USE OF WATER
YOUR HANDS TO MIX AND PATIENCE WITH SCOUTS!
YES, IT IS MESSY-BUT BOYS LOVE IT!

DIRECTIONS:
Blow up a large balloon. Get a large bowl and place flour and water together. 2 BAGS OF FLOUR TO MAKE 8-9 BALLOONS! This should be moist and NOT a paste mixture. Have the Scouts rip up newspaper into strips. Dip the strips into the flour/water mixture and place onto balloon. If you have too much mixture, add more paper strips. The entire balloon needs to be covered! Tell them to smooth out strips each time a new one is added. You want a smooth finish when completed. DO NOT COVER THE TIED END OF BALLOON! After balloon is covered, place onto a clean piece of newspaper in a safe place till your next Den Meeting. Tie a piece of yarn around the tied part of the balloon, make this about 2 feet long.
Be sure to write the Scouts name on the clean newspaper. Be sure you received permission to leave the Pinata's; in the safe place for a week. The following week: Scouts should bring wrapped candy that will be placed into their Pinata. You can fill the Pinata's with confetti if you wish. (THAT CAN BE ANOTHER PART OF THIS CRAFT, RIPPING UP TISSUE PAPER OR COLORED PAPER!) Make a small amount of the flour mixture and have strips of newspaper. Cover the opening of the balloon where the string would be BUT DO NOT PULL OUT THE DEFLATED BALLOON! BE SURE THE YARN IS HANGING OUT OF YOUR PINATA. THIS IS TO BE USED TO HANG YOUR PINATA! Make sure the Scouts understand that candy is located inside and it does not need to be a lot of paper, just cover the opening and secure the yarn with the paper. NOW THEY MAY BEGIN TO PAINT THEIR PINATA! They can paint where the yarn is located, but it should be the last thing they paint, to allow it to have some drying time! Let it sit to dry for another week! They may take home their Pinata after it is done drying. DO NOT CARRY THE PINATA; BY THE YARN, THIS IS ONLY FOR THE TIME THEY WILL HANG IT TO CRACK IT OPEN.

BUG BOXES!
Most craft stores will have a selection of wooden products already prepared for painting. Purchase the box, it looks like a treasure box, yet the lid has SCREEN from the top view. I found mine at Michael's in Niles.

DIRECTIONS:
The Scouts may use markers for a faster project or to extend the project use paints to color the box. Let dry and take home! Collect bugs, but remember to release them, for they have a family too!

SNACKS THAT ARE CRAFTY!

ANTS ON A LOG CRAFT/SNACK
YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
CELERY, YET MOST BOYS LIKE PRETZEL RODS INSTEAD
PEANUT BUTTER, CHECK FOR ALLERGIES!
RAISINS, YET MOST BOYS LIKE M&M'S

Place peanut butter inside celery or on top of pretzel rod. Add raisens on top to make the ants crawling on the rod (or brown M&M's). EAT AND ENJOY!

AN OWL OF A TREAT!
YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
GRAHAM CRACKERS
PEANUT BUTTER, CHECK ON ALLERGIES!
BANANAS
RAISENS OR PLAIN M&M'S

Spread peanut butter onto crackers. Cut a couple banana's into slices. Place 2 round slices on the top of your cracker. Add a small amount of peanut butter in the middle of the slices. (This will be your owls eyes!)
Add raisens or M&M's to that dab of peanut butter. The Scouts can pick what color eyes they want their owl to have. The peanut butter is used to secure the M&M into place. Now take 1 sliced banana piece and cut it in half. Take the cut side and place onto cracker under the eyes of your owl. (This is his beak!) The Scouts can use a plastic fork and make feathers onto the owl in the peanut butter below his beak!
GAMES & TOURS

ALL TIED UP
ALL BOYS TAKE OFF THEIR SHOES AND PUT INTO A PILE!
MIX THEM ALL UP.
PUT THE BOYS INTO GROUPS.
HAVE THEM RACE ONE AT A TIME TO FIND THEIR SHOE, TIE THEM THEN RUN TO THEIR TEAMATES TO HAVE ANOTHER GO FIND THEIR SHOE.
FIRST TEAM TO FIND SHOES WITH TIED SHOES! WINS!
KNOTS ARE IMPORTANT IN SCOUTING!
THIS IS THE FIRST STEP IN KNOWING KNOTS!

PHONE GAME
BOYS ARE IN A CIRCLE.
ONE BOY STARTS HE SAYS:
HIS NAME, FAVORITE COLOR AND ONE WORD.
(THIS WORD CAN DEAL WITH SCOUTING,
OR THE CURRENT HOLIDAY WE MAY BE CELEBRATING!)
THE NEXT SCOUT MUST BEGIN WITH THE SCOUTS PREVIOUS NAME, COLOR, WORD THEN ADD HIS NAME, COLOR, WORD. THIS GOES ALL THE WAY AROUND. IF A SCOUT FORGETS A PREVIOUS SCOUTS NAME, COLOR OR WORD HE IS OUT. THIS WILL CONTINUE "BEYOND" THE FIRST SCOUT THAT STARTED THE GAME. ONLY BECAUSE IF YOU WERE NEAR THE END, THERE IS MUCH TO REMEMBER, SO THE FIRST SCOUT TO START MUST PAY ATTENTION ALONG WITH THE REST FROM THE BEGINNING. IF IT MAKES IT ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CIRCLE AGAIN TO THE STARTING SCOUT, HE THEN ADDS A NEW WORD.
