Brief Biography
Paul is a native of Greensboro. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Waller, just three months after graduation in 1972. They have two sons. Jamie is a naval aviator, flying the SH-60B Seahawk helicopter. Jamie gave Paul and Kathy their first daughter (in-law), Laurie, in April 1999. Jeremy lives at home and loves to attend the Annual Fire Conference and other meetings of the Association.
Paul joined the Greensboro Fire Department in 1974. He has served in every division of the department. He is an Assistant Fire Chief and currently serves as Planning and REsearch Officer. He was Project Leader for both the Class 1 ISO review and International Fire Accreditation.
Paul has always been involved in the community serving in leadership roles for the United Way, Association for Retarded Citizens, March of Dimes, school PTA's and youth athletics. He is active in professional organizations as a member of the NCSFA, NCAFC, CFAI, NFPA, IAFC, and the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs. He has served as President of the Piedmont Firemen's Association, President of the North Carolina State Firemen's Association, and is chair and/or a member of several technical working groups of the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). He was recently appointed as a CFAI Commissioner representing fire departments serving populations of 100,000 to 249,999.
