Georgia Orwick is the featured artist at Portneuf Valley Brewing in July displaying her watercolor
paintings. Georgia was raised on the vast North Dakota prairie, Georgia's watercolors are inspired by her fascination with horizons and mountains, land and seascapes, as well as scenes from her travels. She left the prairie in 1979 on a motorcycle and traveled to the end of many roads from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, Florida, and the deserts of the Southwest. For 18 years she traveled extensively from Alaska to Mexico and to the Panama border in Central America. During her adventures she studied stained glass, photography, beadwork, and watercolor.
In addition to impressionistic paintings from nature, portraiture, and abstractions; Georgia has a series, "Honoring the Ancients". The paintings are inspired by exploration of caves in the rugged Sierras of the "Grand Mural Region" of Baja, Mexico. The sophisticated, dynamic figures are unique; carbon-dated to nearly 10,000 years old, making them the oldest, most significant concentration of ancient paintings in the
Americans.
Since moving to Pocatello, Idaho in 1996, Georgia's award winning paintings are exhibited in solo, local and national shows. She is a member of the Pocatello Art Center and the Idaho Watercolor Society. Her artistry as a Master Gardener and landscape designer has won awards for Juniper Hills Country Club and private gardens.
