Artist Bio:
Karen Yxomme (pronounced Ya-me) Lynch Harley is a Native American Artist. She is Eastern Siouan from the Saponi (Haliwa-Saponi) Tribe located in Halifax and Warren Counties of Eastern North Carolina.  The tribe's name originates from the two counties of which  the members live (Halifax and Warren counties) along with the name of the known native people that were of that area (the Saponi). The Tribe was severely impacted by the beginning of European contact in the United States.

Karen’s work is mostly spiritual and primarily represents past and present Native American lifestyles, culture, and wildlife of the Eastcoast. Her work has been exhibited across the country and has been featured in several news articles; such as the Baltimore Sun (Baltimore, Md.), Washington Post (Washington, DC), a Princeton newspaper (Princeton, NJ), Southwest Art Magazine (Advertisement), many local newspapers, and on permanent exhibit at the Pequot Museum in Connecticut.  Karen has won numerous awards for her works throughout the country, with pieces now in the collection of many private individuals throughout the United States as well as internationally.  She is a member of North Carolina Native American Artists, the Spirit Workers of Native Americans in North Carolina, the Women Artist of the West, a prior member of Oil Painters of America, and the Maryland State Cultural Arts Panel.  She was also a member of the Maryland Commission of Indian Affairs for three years working closely with the Maryland School system in regards to the education of students and teachers on Native Americans.  Karen’s work is featured in two illustrated Native American children’s books on Piscataway Indians of Maryland and Native American lifestyles in the United States.  These books are sponsored by the Piscataway Indians & Subtribes of Maryland, the Maryland State Art Commission, and the Guilford Native Association of North Carolina. Karen is presently working with the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Indian on a research project involving Native American Art of Maryland, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. Karen has her own private gallery in her home called the  “Red Earth Gallery,” please contact her for private viewings.
