What I Did Today!
June 19, 2003
Well bird friends, mom's gone and done it again. As if getting that new baby starling yesterday wasn't enough, the neighbors cat caught a baby robin. You know my mom, she's a sucker for babies of all kinds. So, now we got two little squeakers taking up my playtime. Pttthhhhh! That's what I say. But I did get a good look at em, mom let me out while she was feedin em to see how I would react. Their ok and all, but I'm really not that interested. I have more fun throwing around the food from her feeding dish and making a general nuisance of myself. She didn't name me Messy Marvin for nothing. Tee Hee She did at least take me out to see the mama starling today though. That was fun as usual. We got to have our daily birdie chat. I'm still not telling you what we are saying. Tee Hee Besides, it drives my human mom batty not to know and I'm a mischeivious birdie you know. Tee Hee I've been eating all on my own. Wilbur inspired me. (Of Wilbur n Chelle) I couldn't let him grow up without me. Tee Hee Mom was still trying to hand feed me, but I'm not having any part of that. Also, I'm starting to get stars. Well, mom's got to go feed her "darling" babies again. Yippee. So she's done letting me type for today. Wish me luck with my new birdie siblings bird friends. Oh yeah, mom made me put up pictures of those darn babies, see em below. Well, hope all you birdies are having a good life. Until tommorow,

How Marvin Found His Manorhouse
My mom found me when I was just 6 days old. The cat that lives here too brought me to her after dragging me from the crawlspace. {Pssst, I don't really like the cat!}My mom kept me warm and she fed me whenever I was hungry. Mom didn't know what kind of bird I was at first. My dad figured out I was a European Starling. Most folks in mom's town don't like starlings. Dad wanted mom to set me out in the yard. But mom decided I needed her, and I'm glad she did. Now dad and I are the best of friends, and he's decided he really likes starlings after all. I love to throw my food around that's how I got my name, I slung some on dad, he called me messy, and then mom said "Messy Marvin". Mom still feeds me whenever I want now, although she's been leaving me food to play with and eat on my own. The food is more fun to sling and throw around right now, I don't eat much of it yet. {Actually, I'm just spoiled and I like having mom feed me, shhh, don't tell!} Can't beat the setup I got here. There's lots of interesting people to look at and 2 dogs, 2 cats, a snake, 4 frogs, a bunny and oh yeah, those 4 other humans that live here besides my mom. The younger ones are noisy and a bit rowdy, but they are great fun to watch.

Marvin's Favorite Activities
I love to redecorate my manorhouse with those gobs of gooey food mom leaves me. It's great fun slinging it all over, and sometimes I still hit dad. Hee Hee! I love to take baths in my water bowl and the sink. I love to sit on my mom and travel around the house. (As long as she puts those pesky cats away!)Mom keeps lots of toys in my cage, but my favorite toys are just balls of aluminum foil that I toss around. Out of the cage I like to play with my human siblings on the floor. We do the string toss and the tissue dance. {look at my pics below} My little humans let me explore their toys, I particularly like to pull that crazy Barbie's hair. Mom's always talking to me, so I'm trying real hard to learn to talk back when I get to be a big bird. My mom found this great site called Starling Talk. She lets me sit with her while she visits the nice folks there. Mom learned everything she needed to know to make me happy from those folks, I'm glad she met em! I hope anyone else who finds one of my relatives finds those folks too! Hey, look at me, mom's letting me type my own messages on the board now. Whoopee!

Marvin's Best Advice
I'm big fun, and lot's of joy for my parents and human siblings, but keeping a bird like me is not for everyone. Never take a baby bird from the wild unless it's injured or can't be put back in the nest. You should try to find one of those special people called "Wildlife Rehabbers", they know best how to take care of wild things like me.I need lots of attention, my mom didn't get alot of sleep when I was really little, she was feeding me about every  1/2 hour. And I'm real noisy too. I'd be lonely if I didn't have my mom with me all the time, so if you stay away from home, I wouldn't be happy. But if your one of those special families like my human parents and siblings, and there's not a better place to take a bird like me, we make great friends, yes we do!
