A record pool is a music promotion business that acts as a conduit between music companies and the DJs who play dance music. DJs should have regular shifts at a nightclub, bar, or music venue. Mobile DJs should average 2 or more events monthly. Radio and mixshow DJs should hold a re-occuring timeslot. Program directors and fitness managers for athletic, sports or health clubs, dance studios and recreation centers are also eligible for membership.

Will I get all the new music that comes out?

There is no way any record pool can supply you with every dance single released. Not every dance single produced by a record company has a promotional run of that single. Some music is only available by purchase. A record pool membership will be a major means, though not exclusive means, for building your music library.

How much music do I get?

The amount of music you receive is strictly determined by the music companies. Depending upon their release schedules, the average range is around 5 to 15 songs weekly, saving you a lot of $$ and time. Approximately 70% is vinyl; 30% is CD.

What if I don't live in Los Angeles?

As a member, you need to pick up your records regularly. Therefore, you should live in the Southern California area. We know many of you travel frequently or live in areas that are not close by or convenient to us. Driving to our office can be a hassle. We now have shipping service (additional cost) by FedEx Ground, UPS or US Postal Service.

What do I have to do as a member?

We need feedback on music. Your TOP 15 playlist is due twice monthly, before the 13th and before the 28th of each month. We compile member playlists and feedback for the record labels. This is important for the marketing and promotion departments of the labels that service us.

How can I join if you're filled up?

Membership is usually full. If there no opening when you apply, you will be wait-listed, which is prioritized by application date and date of paid registration. Include your registration fee with your application to move to the top of the wait-list. The registration fee is fully refundable should you decide not to join when a membership bin is available.

1. Registration Fee: $120 (non-refundable). The fee includes a substantial inventory of new and recent releases to bring you up-to-date with music. The registration fee plus the first month dues activates your membership.

2. Monthly Dues: $100. (Shipping fee is $15 - $25 additional monthly depending upon location.) Dues must be received by the 7th of each month to receive the music in your bin.

3. Late Dues: If dues is received after the 7th of the month, add $10 late fee. Keep your dues current to avoid late fees. We accept check, money order, cash, Visa, MC, AmEx or Discover. Credit card charges appear under the business name of: Ken Alan Associates. Returned checks = $25 service charge.

4. Affiliation: Members may not belong to another record pool.

5. Music Company Policy: Records cannot be sold, bartered, or traded.

6. Pick-Up: Record pick up minimum every other week. Music is sent out to you every 3 weeks with shipping service, dependent upon inventory.

7. Playlist: Top 15 playlist is required monthly, before the 28th of each month. Feedback and comments are encouraged and welcomed, and should be accurate, constructive, timely, and without bias.

8. Dues Paid-in-Advance: 6 months = 10% discount; 1 year = 20% discount.

9. Not Paid-on-Time Penalty: If dues falls delinquent past 30 days, your membership is terminated. There is a $100 fee to re-instate a membership.

10. Active-Hold: Upon request, you may take an Active-Hold status if needed. Active-Hold memberships do not receive music, however you are guaranteed a bin upon return to regular membership status and the $100 re-instatement fee is waived. Active-Hold membership is $20 per month for up to 9 months per calendar year. Member must be in good standing for one year before optioning Active-Hold status. The best part... all Active-Hold dues is compiled and credited to you with music upon return to your regular membership.

11. Update: Members are required to inform director of change in work or employment status, change of venue, or personal contact information.

12. Brag: Members are encouraged to update the pool director of achievements, promotions, and industry-related happenings. We want to highlight your achievements on the Member Spotlight page of our website.

13. Professional Conduct: Member should always conduct himself in a professional manner in conjunction with any promotional event, employment, or industry-related affiliation as a member of the Record Pool.

14. Networking: Irrespective of personal music preferences, members are expected to be respectful and courteous to all DJs. You should not publicly or privately disclose any information about a pool member or an industry professional that may be viewed as defamatory or slanderous. We encourage visiting other members for programming ideas and networking.

15. Policy Adherence: Any violation or non-adherence to the policies may result in termination of active membership.

16. Welcome. Last, but not least, welcome to the pool. Our mission is to help you become the best DJ possible. A record pool�s impact in promoting and breaking new music is based upon the strength of its membership. You will add to our strength, and strengthen your DJ career as well.
