MOUNTED SHOOTING - WHAT IS IT???
Mounted Shooting is the fastest growing equine sport in the US.  Mounted Contestants use two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with 5 rounds specially prepared blank Ammunition.  A competitor crosses the timing line engages 5 targets, returns the empty revolver to the holster, turns a barrel while drawing a second revolver and engages the final 5 targets.  Scoring is based on elapsed time plus 5 seconds for each missed target.  This sport is open to Men and Women of all Ages and horses of all breeds and includes a Outlaw and Young Guns division.  New riders compete against others at their same level.
Mounted Shooting is a multifaceted equestrian sport in which contestants compete using two single action revolvers, loaded with blank ammunition specifically manufactured to MSA standards.
Mounted contestants engage 10 targets while negotiating a specified course of fire on horseback.
Dress code consists of modern western wear or old timey clothes. Ex: cowboy hat, boots with heel, Wrangler or Levi Jeans, button sleeve shirts, keep in mind we want western look and feel.
You may use any saddle of western design as long as it is constructed of leather and is in safe condition.
Mounted Shooters of America
PRO CLASS
Mounted shooting matches have traditionally involved engaging a series of patterns over the course of one or two days.
MSA Pro Division differs in that the format is similar to the time honored formula used by professional rodeo.
Contestants will pay a cash entry fee and will have an opportunity to win money with every run.
MSA Pro Division events will showcase the top mounted shooters in the nation in a non-gender biased format where men and women compete against each other on an equal basis.
The World Champion will be the competitor who wins the most prize money at Pro Division events held in many different states during the year.
The World Champion will be crowned at the World Finals Shoot in Guthrie OK on October 15th, 16th and 17th.
MSA Pro Division events will be held in conjunction with other events such as rodeos and in stand-alone events.
MSA Pro Division is a uniquely American sport with a great patriotic atmosphere at our matches.

The first division is the top three qualifying times overall.  A qualifying time is a time with the number of five second penalties being at or less than the equivalent of one per stage.  (i.e. three five second penalties in a three stage match, six five second penalties in a six stage match etc.)  The top qualifying time is divided by 1.5 per stage (i.e. 3 stages would be top time divided by 4.5) to determine the number of seconds to be added to the top time.  The second division begins with the closest, fastest time to the number arrived at. The second division then pays second and third place also.  Division three is arrived at using the exact same method.  The original number of seconds arrived at using the formula is added to the top time in division two.
