Breeding dogs is a labor of love. Their health and well being is of primary importance. I breed on a selective basis with a focus on breed standard, health, good temperament and working ability. All breeding stock have their hip and eye clearances and come from lines that have been tested and passed for multiple generations.
All puppies are sold on a contract and come with a written health gaurantee on hips and eyes. Since a dog is a living creature, I can not gaurantee that the dog will not have any problems. I do my best to check the health history of the parents, grandparents and siblings. I study pedigrees and dogs to help make informed breeding decisions. No one has yet bred the perfect dog, however, I will stand behind my dogs if there is a problem.
Pups are born and raised in my home as a part of the family so they get the individual attention and care which is so important to a good start in life. Every pup that leaves Riverdel goes with the condition that if for any reason you cannot keep the dog, I will always take it back, for whatever reason.
Every puppy is checked by a licensed veterinarian and receives a health certificate. Dewclaws are removed for safety and appearance, puppies are dewormed and receive their first vaccination. Puppies are sent home with a puppy packet that will contain a full pedigree, AKC registration, and helpful training, feeding and housebreaking tips.
A Chesapeake Bay Retriever is not for everyone. They are strong willed, loyal, protective and intelligent dogs. I screen prospective puppy buyers very carefully. You are not just buying a dog from Riverdel, you are joining a family. I ask you questions and strongly encourage you to ask me questions as well. Please see below for upcoming litter information and check back often for updates.
