A Son's Whisper
This poem was inspired by a dream I had. August 15, 2003 by: Nitebeam AKA Renda Romanus
The luminous clouds parted & a glowing shimmer shone through.
Her breath caught in her throat as she heard a voice she knew.
Her eyes returned toward the stone that marked his resting place.
A moan escaped her from within & tears ran down her face.
Again she heard soft words & the sound of his wondrous voice.
Slowly, she sank down ignoring the grass that was dry & coarse.
"Listen mom to what I have to say. I didn't intend to leave that way.
My life was great & I had much fun. I had a loving family, and wife and sons.
You've endured a loss that many go through. And although I'm gone, I'm still there with you.
My breath is in the gently air. The very breeze going through your hair.
I'm the sunflower growing strong & tall. I'm the summer, winter, spring, & fall.
My uniques smile is in the glowing sun. I'm where the children play & run.
My angelic wings take me anywhere. I see you fight the burdens you bear.
I know you have good days & bad. I've seen the tears when you are sad.
Please mom, do not be in sorrow. Live today & dream of tomorrow.
Remember me always, as I know you will. And know that I'm fine & love you still.
I know you miss me & I miss you too. But I'm everywhere, always there with you.
Find the comfort and always know that our paths are uncertain & we all must go.
Keep all of the memories nearby & know that I send comfort when you cry.
Do not let this drag you down. Enjoy the moments, sights, & sounds.
Rejoice in all the memories made. Let happiness allow the sadness to fade.
I must go now, I have much to do. This isn't good-bye, for I'm always with you."
For a moment, she sat in the silence that followed his retreat.
Then she dried the trace of tears & slowly got to her feet.
As she wove her way through the stones marking those gone before,
A peace & comfort reached inside & touched her very core.
As she walked away, a warm gentle breeze ran through her hair.
A smile touched her lips as the voice whispered "love you mom, take care".
