Sandhills Model Aircraft Club
Safety Rules
These safety rules are in addition to the Academy of Model Aeronautics safety rules and if there is a conflict the AMA safety rules take precedence.
1. All pilots must have a valid AMA License in their possession while flying.
2. No Smoking will be permitted in the pit area or near the engine test stand when it is in use. Smoking is permitted in the pavilion and vehicle parking area.
3. Pilots will check the frequency management pins and ensure they have the pin that corresponds to their frequency prior to turning on any RC transmitter. When finished using the frequency, pilots shall return the frequency pin to the pin rack.
4. No taxiing in the pit area.
5. Intentional over-flights of the pit area, spectator area or parking area will not be tolerated.
6. All in-flight maneuvering shall be conducted parallel to and over or North of the runway. Pilots shall ensure they do not intentionally fly perpendicular to the runway axis from the North to South (base leg of traffic patterns excluded), and at no time should an aircraft be flown directly at the pits, pavilion, or parking area.
7. Landing aircraft have right-of-way over aircraft taking off. A "dead stick" airplane has right-of-way over all others. The pilot of the dead-stick airplane must call out in a loud voice, "DEAD STICK" to warn other pilots on the flight line. All pilots must yield to a “dead stick” landing and must give that pilot right-of-way.
8. Any pilot who willfully or deliberately flies his/her aircraft in a careless, reckless, or dangerous manner will be subject to disciplinary action by the Club Safety Committee.
9. Spectators must stay in the vicinity of the pavilion and remain out of the pit area and off of the flying field at all times unless escorted by a club member.
10. Membership in the Sandhills Model Aircraft Club is required to fly at the club flying field on a regular basis. Guest pilots are welcome to use the flying field provided they are escorted by a current SMAC member and they hold a valid AMA License.
NOTE: Pilots participating in the AMA Introductory Pilot program may fly for 60 days without an AMA membership while under the supervision of a club instructor pilot.
