General
As you can see from the graphic above, our runway is oriented on an East/West axis and as the green shading suggests it's a grass strip. There is a tree line along the North and East of the runway and most actual flying/maneuvering is done over the trees to the North. Admittedly the tree line can be intimidating to new flyers, but as a pilot becomes used to the field the trees really aren't a factor. The pits are adjacent to the southern edge of the runway. We have a nice pavilion with picnic tables and built in gas grill for cookouts which we have occasionally throughout the year. Next to the pavilion we have an engine run table and a large work table for any necessary field repairs.
Normal Traffic Flow
Our preferred (i.e. no wind) traffic pattern is a left hand circuit with the takeoff headed to the East and final approach coming from the West. Prevailing winds tend to favor left traffic, but depending on the season and/or current weather patterns Pilots will be challenged with right traffic or crosswind landings.
On no wind days when the field isn't crowded the Pilot's option is typically flown. This option consists of a takeoff to the West avoiding the tree line to the East and final approach and landing headed to the east taking advantage of an unobstructed final approach.
The helicopter training area is located at the east end of the field as depicted in the diagram above.
Restrictions
Normal flight operations are limited to a maximum of four (4) aircraft airborne at any one time.
Normal maneuvering is conducted over the treeline to the North and/or over the runway.
No taxiing in the pit area.
Intentionally flying over the pits, pavilion, or parking area will not be tolerated. The diagram above depicts these areas and pilots should ensure they avoid overflying them.
No smoking in the pit area.
Local NOTAMS
Our runway is superimposed on a full scale operational private grass runway and occasionally full scale aircraft do operate from the field. This is a rare occurrence, but RC Pilots are reminded to yield to full scale aircraft at all times.
Our field is located near MacKall Army Airfield and we do occasionally see military fixed wing and helicopter traffic transiting our area just to the south.
