President's Message, San Francisco Bay Area Polio Survivors
Looks like spring is on its way, finally. It's so nice to see the
sun out and the trees in blossom. Seems like this winter was longer
and wetter than usual, and I've had a real case of cabin fever.
It's good to get out and spend some time in our marvelous Bay Area
weather.
At our February meeting we met Steve Lyon of Accessible Events
who spoke to us about the various recreational opportunities available to the physically challenged in our area, such as scuba
diving, snorkeling, kayaking, etc. Kristi Grotting, board president
of the Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program, talked about the free sailing
lessons and trips around the bay that we could sign up for, and also
river rafting and whale watching trips. It was a fun and
informative meeting.
We are very excited about our March speaker, Dr. Fernando Torres-Gil.
He is traveling to the Bay Area at his own expense in order to
spend time discussing the late effects of polio with us.
We hope you will take the time to come and meet Dr. Torres-Gil.
He is a powerful speaker and an icon in the polio arena.
