Countless individuals have been impressed with the sheer size of the magnificent horses carved circa 1908 by Stein and Goldstein, for New York's Central Park Carousel.
The power of each massive and imposing horse was the inspiration for the three colorful and expressive pastel artworks in this triptych. The three drawings represent portions of a particular black beauty that caught my attention, while visiting the carousel in Central Park. It's massive hooves, aggressive face and impressive girth all presented a feeling of overwhelming power.
The patriotic red, white and blue trappings adorning this
Stein and Goldstein carving
serve as a humble memorial to the strength and honor of the
people past and present of New York City.
