THE PETER FREUND MEMORIAL EDUCATIONAL TRUST
As many of you know, my cousin Peter was one of the firemen who sacrificed
his life in the rescue mission at the World Trade Center. Peter was a decent
person with a gentle nature that belied his large stature. With his good
looks, quick smile and sharp mind, he could have done most anything. In
fact, he held a master’s degree but chose instead to serve as a firefighter-
a job he did for twenty years. We were the grandchildren of immigrants who
placed a high value on education, so much so that every one of their
grandchildren has a college degree, many with a master’s or a doctorate.
Because of this legacy, I know that it was Peter’s goal that his three
children should have this same opportunity. Although I don’t pretend that
there is anything I can do to ease the grief of his wife and children, I can
do something to help insure that Peter’s vision for his children’s future
remains intact.
It is this end that we have created a trust for the children, the “Peter
Freund Memorial Educational Trust.”
