Spartanburg Sky Knight's Club Letter

The Spartanburg Sky Knights Radio Control Model Aircraft Club is dedicated to promoting the sport of model aviation in the Spartanburg, SC area. This enjoyable hobby consists of building and safely flying radio controlled model airplanes and helicopters.

The Spartanburg Sky Knights club is chartered with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and the International Miniature Aircraft Association (IMAA). You will have to be an AMA member before you can fly your model aircraft at our field. You will find that to be true at any AMA sanctioned field. The AMA provides liability insurance to clubs and to each member.

The flying field is part of the Croft State Park system and it consists of a 75' x 400' asphalt runway. Feel free to stop by anytime the gate is open. The Sky Knights have been given the responsibility of securing and maintaining the field. Our club members paid for the pavilion, tables, and fences. You will see trainers, fun fly, warbirds, and electrics, large scale airplanes with gasoline engines and helicopters. Sundays are active with all types of aircraft.

Anyone interested in learning about model aircraft is encouraged to attend the regular club meeting at the Spartanburg Arts Center. These meetings will be announced on the club web site home page. Members will be pleased to provide information and assistance concerning airplane and helicopter kits, engines, radio, and accessories.

Anyone interested is, also, invited to come to the field and visit with the club members. The club has several qualified instructors who can teach you to fly your airplane or helicopter successfully. You are welcome to watch as many times as you like but, after three (3) active flying visits to our field, we would request that you apply for membership to our club. Our dues are $60.00 per year and we have a grass cutting credit plan so your dues could be free.

Saturday mornings, and Tuesday evenings during daylights saving time, are active with helicopter flights and setups.
