LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I am John Green Jr and, I have A MENTAL DISABILITY!!!
I hear voices in my head and, take medication for it. I want
to discuss THE GROUP OF PEOPLE OF WHICH I AM A
MEMBER.
My website has an account of what it's like to go through
assesment and, hospitalization. (web links are in address
at bottom of letter.)
There are more hospital beds taken by the mentally ill in
the U.S. than any other disease!!!! thats a fact. I know not to give
any credence to my abstract thinking. I have enough common
sense not to pay attention to the voices.....
But for some DEPRESSION AND PSYCHOSIS IS TOTALLY
DEBILITATING!!!! And, destroys any possibility of conducting a
normal daily routine or, sleep at night.
There has to be an INFORMED AND, CONCIOUS PUBLIC AND,
MENTAL HEALTH STAFF AND, DOCTORS TO HELP.
Many consumers (What we are called in Alabama.) need day-
care and monitoring TOO MANY INCEDENTS OCCUR WITH
CONSUMERS. there is a serious shortage of programs for the
Mentally ill consumers because of budget cuts here in Alabama!
I am under the ACT Team, assertive community treatment team.
And they are absotively SWAMPED WITH DAILY CRISIS.
There is good news. I have seen advertisments on the TV for new personel at the Mobile Mental Health Cntr. Here in Mobile.
I am talking about people, consumers. That can't manage themselves. They need constant care and, attention and ENCOURAGEMENT SO THEY KNOW THEY ARE LOVED AND, HAVE HOPE IN LIFE!!!!
The money has to be appropriated for programs and, doctors and, staff to maintain the population of consumers in Alabama!!!
PLEASE, understand with proper management and, medication
a consumer can lead somewhat of a life. EVEN WITH THE TORMENT OF A BROKEN MIND. There is hope.... It will take time and, money.
