4-WAY CHESS
and CHECKERS
Four players form 2 teams and partners sit across from each other. All the queens start on white, and all the rules of regular chess apply. White moves first and play continues clockwise around the board with each player moving one piece per turn. The object of the game is to work with your partner to check-mate the two opposing kings. All the rules of regular chess apply. When a player is in check on his turn he must get out of check, and you can never move into check. When a player is put in check-mate play continues to his turn. If it is your turn and you are in check-mate then you are out of the game just as in regular chess and all of your pieces are removed from the board. After the lone partner's next move the two conquering armies combine into one army for movement purposes only getting one move (from either army) per move that the lone player makes. More advanced players may to prefer to play by Regicide Rules where you have to actually capture the enemy kings rather than just check-mate them. Pawns always move forward with respect to the side of the board they start on. When a pawn reaches the other side of the board, or your opponents first rank, it is promoted, only to a piece your army has already lost. En Passant also applies.
If you play every man for himself then you must actually capture your enemies' kings, and when you do, the remainder of his army comes under your command. In this variation you can only move into check when you are mated. In 4-way checkers you always play every man for himself. HAPPY GAMING ! ! !
