Hi! My name is Theresa Lucas, I'm 42 years old & I was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita.(AMC) When I was born the doctors told my parents that I would never be able to walk or do things for myself. We proved them wrong! With the help & encouragement of my family, I walked at age 5. My Sister had a lot to do with that, I think she was tired of carrying me! At age 5, most children are enrolled in kindergarten with no problems. My parents had to fight to get me enrolled in public school in a regular classroom. They won, (of course!) & I went to regular public schools & graduated in 1983.
I did everything a "normal" child would do growing up like girl scouts, camping trips, attending basketball games in high school (I live in Indiana, high school basketball is a BIG thing here!) . I have never been told I couldn't do things, so I have always done things on my own like, dressing, feeding,etc.... I have to say I thank God every day for my entire family, not only my great Parents , Sister & Nephew, but Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles & Cousins. (ok, my friends too!) They have always been there for me encouraging & supporting me and teaching me to have faith in everything I do.
I have always loved to do any kind of art... but now I mainly do watercolors. Even though I can use my hands to do things, I have found it to be much easier to paint by holding the brush in my mouth. I have had several paintings hung in local galleries as well as the Indiana State Fair. I am a member of the Art Association of Madison County, Inc and I served 4 year as President & 2 years as Treasurer. Im also the AAMC Coordinator of the annual High School Student Exhibition. (2009 being the 10th year) I'm now serving on the Board of Directors of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Support, Inc. as Vice-President. I also have been in many classrooms from kindergarten to college level speaking about my "dif"ability. I don't like to say "dis"ability because to me it means NOT able to do things. I am able, just a little bit different than others.

I cannot change the way I am, I never really try, God made me different and unique, I never ask him why. If I appear peculiar, There's nothing I can do, You must accept me as I am, As I've accepted you. God made a casting of each life, Then threw the mold away, Each child is different from the rest, Unlike as night from day. So often we will criticize, The things that others do, But, do you know, they do not think, The same as me and you. So God in all his wisdom, Who knows us all by name, He didn't want us to be bored, That's why we're not the same. Author Unknown
...Believe in yourself... In the power you have To control your own life, day by day... Believe in the strength That you have deep inside,And your faith will help Show you the way...Believe in tomorrow...And what it will bring...Let a hopeful heart carry you through...For things will work out...If you trust and believe... There’s no limit To what you can do... ~Emily Matthews

For everyone who views my webpage...My Wish for You....
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow...,And each road leads you where you want to go..And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose..,I hope you choose the one that means the most to you....And if one door opens to another door closed,..I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window..,If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,...But more than anything, more than anything,.....My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to...,Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,...You never need to carry more than you can hold,...And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,....I hope you know somebody loves you,....... and wants the same things too,...yeah, this, is my wish...I hope you never look back,... but ya never forget...,All the ones who love you..., in the place you left..,I hope you always forgive.., and you never regret,..And you help somebody every chance you get,..Oh, you find God's grace.., in every mistake,..And you always give more than you take...But more than anything.., yeah, and more than anything,...My wish, ..for you,.. is that this life becomes all that you want it to,..Your dreams stay big,.. and your worries stay small,..You never need to carry more than you can hold,..And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,I hope you know somebody loves you......, and wants the same things too,.....Yeah, this, is my wish....My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,...Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small...You never need to carry more than you can hold.....,And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,I hope you know somebody loves you....... and wants the same things too,...Yeah, ...this, is my wish...This is my wish...I hope you know somebody loves you...May all your dreams stay big...........................................
