YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Did you know that the MAJORITY of doctoral candidates never finish their dissertations. Consequently there are MORE ABD's than PhD's in the U.S.! Would it surprise you to learn that the thesis is the primary stumbling block for over 80% of those students who fail to confer their MASTER'S degree? (Read "Where have all the Doctoral Students gone?" link below.)
Reasons for not finishing the thesis or dissertation often involve lack of proper guidance from the assigned thesis advisor. It's an unfortunate reality that many faculty members are stretched too thin to offer the level of attention and direction candidates may need to get through a critically difficult process.
For the student, this often translates into the FINANCIAL BURDEN of paying additional tuition to support extensions, OPPORTUNITY COSTS for lost employment and/or advancements, TENSION and interpersonal problems particularly among those who head families, and sometimes the ULTIMATE price ... a peaceful frame of mind. More often than not, these obstacles are even more pronounced for women, minority and foreign students. (Read "Facing Adversity" link below.
Clearly, you are not alone in the need for thesis support. You have done well in taking a step towards acquiring assistance from someone skilled and committed to helping you jump over the last hurdle towards conferring your coveted degree.
