Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 12, 1961, he showed a talent for drawing and puppetry when he was four. By the time he was twelve, Brian knew he wanted to be an animator. After he graduated High School, Mitchell went to Art Schools to learn his craft, excelling in life drawing. Brian’s unique style is influenced by the works of Disney Animators, Milt Kahl, Ward Kimball, Johnny Lounsbery, Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas with a sprinkling of Warner’s Chuck Jones and  MGM’s Tex Avery. In 1987, Mitchell was hired by renegade animator Ralph Bakshi on the basis of twelve drawings. Mitchell moved to Los Angeles, where he worked non stop on many films and television shows. Relocating back from Los Angeles to New York in 1995, Brian opened a school called The Center For Character Animation in Levittown, NY and has taught classes there for over seven years. Many alumni have either worked for Brian or are now working in the animation business either in Los Angeles, Orlando or New York. The school had been featured in news stories in The New York Times, The New York Daily News and Newsday. The school shut it's doors in February of 2003.
He also formed Mitchell Productions the same year to produce, direct, and subcontract projects from major studios such as Universal, Hanna/Barbera
and Warner Bros.
In 1996, Brian directed a Christmas special for the Fox Network. He has since developed shows for Animagic, EKSI and  Porchlight Entertainment.

In the year 2000, Brian was honored to be the Key Note speaker at The Long Island Media Arts show and was a guest animation lecturer/instructor at the 3rd, 4th and 5th Annual Disney Animation Event at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. He occasionally lectures at various colleges and organizations about his experiences in the animated cartoon business.
Currently, Brian is busier than ever, developing several television shows, directing short subjects and working on his pet project, an animated feature length film.
Brian, his wife and daughter reside on Long Island, New York.
