Foreword
The purpose of this website is to describe unique USAF
aerial survey operations conducted in support of the
development of the Long Range Proving Ground now
known as the Atlantic Missile Range, Cape Canaveral,
Florida.
In the spring of 1954 I was transferred from the 1928th
Airways and Air Communications Service, Mc Dill AFB,
Tampa FL to the 1371st Mapping and Charting Squadron
based at Palm Beach AFB, West Palm Beach, FL.

The 1371st, a unit of the Air Photographic and Charting
Service, Military Air Transport Service, conducted photo
mapping missions using small twin engine Beech aircraft
designated RC-45. They also made long distance earth
(geodetic) measurements using large four engined RB-50
aircraft. The Electronics Section to which I was assigned had
the mission to install, move and operate the ground station
beacons that worked with these aircraft to make the
measurements.
