Front view of pigeon house or loft with three trap doors.
The narrow trap door in the center is a safety trap designed to keep out cats out. The larger trap doors are designed for training young birds, which have difficulty entering through the narrow safety trap door. Each trap door should have a landing board for easy entry. The pigeons can enter through the trap doors but cannot get out through them. They are let out through the regular door to drink and go for a lap. When they return to eat or rest, they enter through the trap door. The trap doors ensure that the pigeons do not come and go as they please as this could be a nuisance to your neighboors.
The pigeon seed mix should always be provided inside the loft and should be free of moisture. Feeding the birds inside the loft ensures that they recognize it as their home and protects them from predator attacks while they are eating.
