A New Home
It is better to have the rats new home all set up so that they can get inside and have a chance to get use to the new surroundings.  But first you have to make sure you have the right stuff.

You should get a wire cage for them, and it is better with more then one level.  The wire size should be able 1/2 inch if you have babies and can be about 1 inch if you have adults. It shouldn't be any wider then that or they can get out.  If the cages have wire floors make sure they are covered (See the HEALTH PAGE) Rats also like bird toys to be hung inside of the cage.

You should also make sure that you have CareFresh or Yesterday's News for the litter. Feret litter also works well. (See HEALTH PAGE)

A nice size water bottle is also needed, and if you have many rats in a cage two is better. Hamster food isn't the best thing for rats, but a little can be added to the diet. Rat cubes and other fresh veggies and fruits are good for them. Cat and Dog hard food is also good.

A new Home might mean a new rat added to the cage. Incase you never had to introduce two rats you should not do it in the cage at first! Put them in another unused cage, or the best idea, a bathtube. They will fight at first, and maybe for the first few days in the cage. But then after that they will become bestfriends.
