While coming to pick up a new rat, it is important to make sure that you have everything ready for the way home. In the winter, a box is good, and make sure there is a place for the rat to hide. I would suggest an tissue box. A plastic bottle filled with warm water is a good idea to have inside the box as well.
In the summer I would suggest a small cage for the rat so they will not be over heated. A place to hide is nice as well, but is not needed.
Bring some food along, and some grapes. Grapes are better then water bottles, since water bottles spill or leak, and the rat would not have anywhere else to go.
